Babites vidusskola is a ground and secondary school providing general education. The majority of the students attending the school come from the local town or the area surrounding the town. There are students whose native language is not Latvian. Babite Secondary School has very clever and motivated students but there are also kids from different backgrounds and some have serious problems at home – divorced parents, unemployed or who have left Latvia to work abroad. It leads to some problems with discipline and sometimes there is lack of motivation to study, but all students are always keen to learn English and find out new knowledge if they are approved to take part in international projects. It is also very useful to show them the world outside their routine life and new friends from abroad are always an inspiration for them. As our town doesn't have a lot of possibilities for social activities, Babite Secondary School is the cultural centre and the Municipality always supports projects that educate the society. We are sure that not only our Municipality but also local business people, for example the bakery "Laci", are going to cooperate with us during the project. Our school is situated near Lielupe, which is the second longest river of Latvia, and we live next to the Babite lake which is a protected natural area in Latvia; the Baltic Sea is also 10 kilometers away from our town, therefore the topic water is very suitable for us and there are a lot of possibilities to do research on and reflect on during the Comenius project.
